Reforming Civil Litigation in Alberta: Lessons from Ontario's Proposed Overhaul

Presented by the CBA Alberta Civil Litigation (North) Section

This talk will explore the current state of civil litigation in Alberta, and discuss various proposed methods of improving litigation efficiency through reforming the Rules of Court. The presentation will begin with a discussion of the proposed changes to the rules of court in Ontario. For context, Ontario has proposed a massive reform to its litigation process, which would involve (among other things) curtailing the discovery process, and making the litigation process more akin to international arbitration proceedings.

After reviewing the situation in Ontario, the presentation will explore what Alberta could consider doing to improving the civil litigation landscape here.

Bill Kenny (Partner, Kenny Law)
