The Legal Minefield of Expert Opinion
Presented by the CBA Alberta Insurance Law (South) Section
Is your expert qualified on paper, only to be exposed in court? Drawing on real-world examples, this session examines how expert opinions can derail cases before trial or unravel under cross-examination. Attendees will gain practical guidance on identifying risk early and stress-testing expert opinions before they are exposed to challenge. Ryan Dobson is an experienced investigator with 23 years at the Calgary Police Service and currently serves as Western Canadian Vice President of OCI Group, one of Canada’s leading forensic investigation firms. He has conducted over 1,100 fire and explosion investigations and has been designated as an expert witness in fire investigation by the Alberta Court of Justice and the Court of King’s Bench.
