IP Practice Through the Lens of In-House Counsel, Round 2
Presented by the CBA Alberta Technology & Intellectual Property (South) Section
Intellectual property continues to be one of the most valuable and most rapidly evolving assets for organizations. After an insightful April session, we are returning in June with Round 2, expanding the conversation to include one of the most dynamic areas of IP today: copyrights. View Part 1 here.
This follow-up panel brings together experienced in-house counsel to explore how IP practice is shifting inside organizations as they manage patents, trademarks, and now increasingly complex copyright issues. From AI-generated content and digital licensing to cross-border enforcement and content-driven business models, copyright questions are landing on in-house desks with new urgency. Panelists will share what has changed since April, what new challenges have emerged, and how they are adapting their internal strategies.
The discussion will go deeper into the realities of in-house IP work – balancing legal risk with business priorities, navigating resource constraints, and deciding when to build internal capability versus engaging external counsel. With copyrights added to the mix, the conversation will highlight the judgment calls required to manage creative assets, protect digital content, and support innovation in an environment where speed and alignment matter more than ever.
Whether you practice IP law or simply collaborate with in-house teams, Round 2 offers fresh insights, new angles, and a broader scope, giving attendees a timely look at how legal departments are evolving their approach to patents, trademarks, and copyrights while enabling innovation and managing risk.
