As employment lawyers, we often have to consider tax issues in settlement negotiations or advise clients on the taxation of judgments, but we don't always have the answers readily at hand. Sometimes, a favourable tax structure can make the difference between settlement and court.

Join Mike Hamata of Roper Greyell LLP and Geoffrey Metropolit , a tax lawyer with Deloitte Legal Canada LLP, as they tackle some tricky tax issues that arise in employment disputes, such as:
  • Legal fee reimbursement - tax deductibility and source deductions;
  • Employee RRSP contributions and source deductions;
  • Taxation of severance payments (lump sum vs. continuance);
  • Taxation of expense reimbursement;
  • Taxation of interest and cost payments;
  • Taxation of "general", "punitive" and "aggravated" damages;
  • and more!
