Researching and Preserving Online Information
This meeting is being hosted by the Legal Research Section.

Almost every step that someone takes online leaves a trace, if you know where to look and who to ask – in this seminar, Daniel Reid will explore tools and tricks to identify and preserve online information. Topics will include tracking IP addresses, internet domain registration, and who to ask to prevent important digital information from being deleted.

Speaker Bio:

Daniel Reid is an associate with Harper Grey LLP.  He articled with Harper Grey LLP and following his call to the Bar of British Columbia in 2009, he joined the firm as an associate.

Daniel practices in the areas of online defamation and privacy, insurance litigation and health law. He has appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia and at the Supreme Court of Canada. He is cited by the Supreme Court of Canada (in conjunction with Mr. Baynham, QC) in the leading case concerning liability attached to “hyperlinks.”  Much of his practice concerns identifying and removing online material, including photos, websites and articles that violate privacy, defame, or infringe on copyright.

Daniel is a regular commentator on legal affairs and has appeared or published articles in CBC television, CBC radio, CKNW radio, CTV News, the Vancouver Sun, BC Broker Magazine, LexisNexis and the Advocate.
