Speaker Bio

Jennifer Wade is a long-time human rights advocate.  Her involvement in human rights issues began in the 60’s while she was studying in England.  She worked for the Civil Rights movement in the United States and has spent years helping those in need and those facing injustices who are often unable to speak for themselves.  Jennifer is a founding member of Amnesty International in Vancouver and has worked not only on behalf of prisoners of conscience all over the world, but has also been a public spokesperson and champion for prisoners’ rights, children-in-care and people facing injustices.  She is a recipient of the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, British Columbia Civil Liberties Reg Robson Award, Renate Shearer Human Rights Award, an Honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of New Brunswick for international justice work and the Order of BC in 2017.
