Recent case law continues to provide clarity in relation to protection of gender identity and expression under the Human Rights Code. Adrienne Smith, who was counsel for the complainant in Nelson v. Goodberry Restaurant Group, will provide their insight and analysis to give attendees advice on the use of pronouns in the workplace, including best practices for workplace investigators.

Adrienne Smith is a transgender human rights activist and social justice lawyer, and recipient of the CBABC Diversity Award. In addition to the Nelson case, Adrienne's recent work includes: advocating as a trade union activist for transgender inclusion in the workplace; and providing pro bono legal advice at the Catherine White Holman Wellness Clinic, taking on human rights cases and notarizing name change documents for trans people.
