ONLINE MEETING: Help Your Clients Take the War Out of Their Words
This meeting is being hosted by the ADR - Nanaimo & ADR - Vancouver Sections.

Speakers: Janet Schmidt, Janet Schmidt & Associates Ltd
Time: Thursday, October 5, 2023, 5:30pm - 7:30pm (PT)
CPD Hours: 2.00 hour (including Ethics/Practice Management)
Synopsis

As mediators, we are responsible for providing a safe environment for our clients to talk through difficult things. When clients use certain words during the mediation process, the impact on the other party can result in increased defensiveness at times resulting in their inability to engage constructively. The focus of our time together will be on coaching our clients to leave the ‘war’ out of their words.

Speaker Biography

Janet Schmidt has been mediating for over 35 years. She started her career working in the victim offender mediation field and has focused on workplace conflict for the last 35 years. Her activities range from leading the development of the mediation and leadership certificate at Mediation Services (Winnipeg, Manitoba) as well as participating in the development of a 9-month Peace Building and Conflict Transformation certificate in Africa. You can watch her 2016 Ted X talk entitled “If you could see what I see you could achieve your dreams” drawing on her mediation experience.

Territorial Acknowledgement
This event will be broadcast from the traditional and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including Tsleil-Waututh, Squamish and Musqueam First Nations.
