Synopsis

The City of Toronto Seniors Services and Long-Term Care (SSLTC) has co-developed and launched a training Tool Kit to transform care for Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and other gender- and sexually-diverse seniors (2SLGBTQI+). The current generation of 2SLGBTQI+ seniors have endured a lifetime of discrimination due to their sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or gender expression and face specific challenges as they age. To address these needs, SSLTC engaged a working group of community members, service providers, advocates, and allies to revitalize and implement Leading & Learning with Pride. Launched June 2022, the new Tool Kit was co-created to promote respectful, inclusive, and affirming care for 2SLGBTQI+ seniors across the care continuum, including in long-term care, retirement, homecare, healthcare, and social service settings.

This session will provide an overview of the Leading & Learning with Pride Tool Kit. By the end of this session, attendees will:

  • Know where and how to access the new Tool Kit
  • Be more familiar with the unique needs of 2SLGBTQI+ seniors
  • Feel equipped to use the Tool Kit to enhance supports for 2SGLGBTQI+ seniors
  • Understand the importance of community partnership to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in seniors care and services
