ONLINE MEETING: Unbundled Services in Civil Litigation

Synopsis

Ashley Syer discusses different types of unbundled representation that lawyers can offer to their clients in civil litigation, including providing one-time or ongoing legal advice and background or foreground assistance on a file. Ashley also emphasizes the importance of conducting conflict checks before accepting a file and during the course of the file, to avoid any ethical issues or potential liability. 

Other topics iclude best practices for drafting letters to clients that clearly outline the scope and limitations of the unbundled services that are being provided, portions of the code of professional conduct that governs lawyers in this area, the advantages and disadvantages of fixed-fee retainers for unbundled services, and the common pitfalls that lawyers should avoid when offering unbundled representation.
