SYNOPSIS
Builders lien issues often emerge at the crossroads of construction and real estate law, with the potential to delay closings, stall projects, and escalate into costly disputes. In this session, Chelsea Wilson and Wil Chan unpack recent developments in lien law, provide practical strategies for discharging liens, and examine the broader impacts on real estate transactions, project management, and dispute resolution.
ABOUT OUR GUEST SPEAKERS
Chelsea Wilson is a partner in the Construction, Infrastructure and PPP, and Litigation and Dispute Resolution groups at Dentons. She specializes in construction and infrastructure disputes, providing strategic advice on negligence, warranty, delay and defects claims, and builders lien issues. Chelsea’s expertise in builders lien law has led her to publish numerous resources and speak at industry events.
Wil Chan is a partner in the Real Estate practice group at Dentons. He works with clients on all aspects of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, developments, dispositions, financing, leasing and subdivisions. Prior to joining Dentons, Wil was in-house counsel for a real estate developer and was an associate for a boutique real estate law firm in Vancouver. During that time, Wil has acted for real estate developers, purchasers, vendors, private financial lenders, borrowers, landlords and tenants in connection with real estate transactions in Canada and the United States.
