Synopsis

CBABC’s Restorative Justice Committee invites all members of the criminal justice, social justice and Aboriginal law communities to hear from David Gustafson, founder of the Community Justice Initiatives Association located in Langley, BC.  He will explain the key components of the Collaborative Sentence Program Model in achieving restorative and redemptive outcomes in suitable cases. As program designer and facilitator of the Victim Offender Mediation Program in Canada’s federal prisons, David will share highlights and progress from over 35 years of experience.  Attendees are encouraged to bring questions, discuss potential implementation in their jurisdictions, offer constructive counsel and address any issues they feel the program would face.

Mr. Gustafson is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Criminology at SFU, a Registered Clinical Counsellor and holds a PhD from the Faculty of Law, Leuven, Belgium. He is recognized as a pioneer in restorative justice program development and implementation and has shared his experience and knowledge on the UN Committee of Experts on the use of Restorative Justice in penal matters.
