How to identify high conflict/demanding clients before you take them on and avoid being retained. Whoops, too late? You already have a difficult client - how to understand their needs and how to cope with their demands.

Alyson Jones, an expert in high conflict personalities, will discuss the psychology behind difficult clients and provide tools to assist lawyers in identifying high conflict personalities. She will also review some tips on how lawyers can make sure to protect themselves against the emotional abuse that some of these clients may inflict. Morag MacLeod, Q.C. and Simon Kent, both senior lawyers, will use examples and scenarios of high conflict clients to explore and discuss how to identify difficult clients either before or during the retainer and ways of coping with high conflict clients’ demands, while still maintaining ethical obligations to the clients.
