TOPIC: The Gladue Principles: Doctrinal Roots and New Growth
SPEAKER: Benjamin Ralston, PhD candidate and sessional lecturer at University of Saskatchewan, College of Law and Author of Gladue Principles: A Guide to the Jurisprudence

Benjamin Ralston teaches at the University of Saskatchewan College of Law where he is currently completing his PhD. He previously held term positions as an assistant professor, including a one-year appointment to teach in the Nunavut Law Program. Benjamin has been involved in the implementation of the Gladue principles since 2014 when he began assisting as an editor and co-author for Gladue reports in Saskatchewan as part of a Legal Aid Saskatchewan pilot project. Since then, he has assisted with Gladue reports used in British Columbia and Nunavut as well. Benjamin has also authored various publications on this topic, including the Indigenous Law Centre’s Gladue Awareness Project: Final Report published in 2020, as well as The Gladue Principles: A Guide to the Jurisprudence published by the Indigenous Law Centre in 2021 as an initiative of the BC First Nations Justice Council.

At approximately 9:30am on Monday, April 25, 2022 an email will be sent from the MBA advising you of the link that you will click on to join the Zoom video conference meeting.  So it will be important to register before 5:00pm on Friday, April 22, 2022.

Attendance at this MBA Section meeting can be applied towards your Law Society of Manitoba’s Continuing Professional Development requirement for a maximum of 1.5 hours.
