AI & Self-Represented Litigants: Navigating this emerging trend

Nov. 7, 2025
Fredericton Online

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the legal landscape, one of the most significant developments is its growing use by Self-Represented Litigants (SRLs). This session will explore the emerging trend of how AI is quickly becoming a tool used by individuals without formal legal representation and what that means for legal professionals, courts, and access to justice.
Join us for an insightful presentation by Amy Salyzyn, an associate professor at the University of Ottawa who has written extensively in the area of legal ethics, lawyer regulation, the use of technology in the delivery of legal services and access to justice.

This session will feature:
•    Case studies on this trend of SRLs are AI tools in court
•    How civil litigation and workflow is being affected by this trend
•    Discussion on the challenges and ethical considerations facing legal practitioners

Whether you're in private practice, legal aid, court administration, or policy, this session offers valuable knowledge on the evolving relationship between technology, justice, and self-representation.
