Environmental Assessments in Nova Scotia: The Provincial Regime

Join colleagues from the Public Sector and Environment, Energy & Resources Law Sections for a 3-part series focused on Environmental Assessment in Nova Scotia.  In this first session, Renata Mageste da Silva, Environmental Assessment Officer with the EA Branch at Nova Scotia Environment, will provide a comprehensive overview of the Nova Scotia EA regulatory regime under Part IV of the Environment Act.  Discussion will go beyond the statutory regime itself to provide insight into how NSE manages the EA process in Nova Scotia, interactions with a proponent seeking approval, and how the interests of the public and other stakeholders are integrated into the process, including the critical importance of Crown consultation and proponent engagement with the Mi’kmaq of Nova Scotia.
