OBA Entertainment, Media & Communications Law PROGRAM | Original Program Date: March 2, 2020

“Breaking the internet” used to refer to literally making the internet unusable. In recent years, it has come to mean dominating the online conversation. When it comes to current issues in broadcasting law, both meanings may apply. Join us to gather critical updates to ensure you are staying up to speed in this exciting field. Our expert panel will share valuable insights on:

  • Next steps and what we can expect following the broadcasting recommendations in the Yale Panel’s report, including the introduction of legislation by the end of 2020 to ensure over-the-top (OTT) services contribute to Canadian programming;

  • Canada’s landmark site-blocking decision in Bell Media v GOLDTV.BIZ, which ordered certain ISPs in Canada to block access to alleged pirate subscription streaming sites that infringed Bell Media, Groupe TVA, and Rogers Media’s copyrights, and the upcoming appeal.
