OBA Public Sector Lawyers PROGRAM | Original Program Date: June 8, 2021
Lawyers often face conflicts of interest within the field of legal practice requiring careful navigation. Public sector lawyers may find themselves in work environments with competing obligations, including those to an employer, cultural environment, legislative framework or to a professional licensing body. To whom do public sector lawyers have obligations, and what are those obligations? Join us to hear from our keynote speaker, Professor Elizabeth Sanderson, the author of “Government Lawyering: Duties and Ethical Challenges of Government Lawyers” (LexisNexis), as she discusses the legal and ethical framework that public sector lawyers work within. Following our keynote, panelists John Park and Jillian Siskind will discuss practical application of ensuring you are following your duty of candour, duty of loyalty, and competence in everyday practice.
