OBA Family Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution PROGRAM | Original Program Date: June 22, 2023
Arbitration can be an efficient and effective way to resolve many family law disputes. Our new two-part program will provide you with the critical knowledge and skills you need to successfully represent your client’s interests at arbitration. Through a convenient format of two webcast sessions over two days, our faculty of experienced counsel and family law arbitrators will walk you though the arbitration process and help you to navigate challenging issues with confidence.
The first session will provide an overview of the arbitration process, including identifying the types of disputes that can be resolved through arbitration, selecting an arbitrator, and understanding the key differences between arbitration and mediation-arbitration. In this first session, you will also learn from our distinguished panel about the following:
- Best practices for advising your client and managing expectations
- Drafting effective arbitration agreements: legislative requirements and pitfalls to avoid
- Screening for power imbalances and domestic violence
- Working with parenting coordinators as arbitrators
