OBA PROGRAM
Webcast Replay with Live Chat | 2:15 pm - 3:15 pm (ET)
Webcast Replay of program originally aired on March 28, 2023.
Lawyers are trained to see nuance. Lawyers who fight for equity and equality, and those who are sincerely determined to be good allies in those fights, see the complexity of intersecting bases of discrimination and varying perspectives gained from a wide variety of lived experiences. These complexities sometimes make conversations hard. It is incumbent on us, though, to ensure we do not let the existence of complexity stall progress or mute support. It is incumbent on us to work through the complexity. It is incumbent on us to HAVE the hard conversations.
To that end, the OBA introduces its Hard Conversations Series – a complimentary speaker series and a forum for educated conversations on complex issues.
|
Hard Conversations Part I will feature Nobel Peace Prize winner and former Iranian Judge Dr. Shirin Ebadi who will discuss the Woman, Life, Freedom revolution in Iran.
She will provide insight into the Iranian women's movement and where it is headed. She will help us navigate some of the complexities of offering culturally competent support, including differences between Western feminism and defending women's rights in the East. This talk will help us build the confidence that the support we provide for the women of Iran is devoid of unconscious bias and anti-Islamic tropes.
