OBA Criminal Justice PROGRAM | Original Program Date: October 28, 2024
Join the Criminal Justice Section to continue the discussion in our pivotal series on Restorative Justice (RJ) in Canada’s criminal justice system. Our expert panel returns to discuss in more detail the technicalities and key challenges of implementing a restorative justice process, including building consistency and transparency into the referral framework, and designing measures to protect the rights of complainants.
In addition to seasoned counsel, the Honourable Justice Anna Loparco of the Court of King’s Bench in Alberta is returning to provide you with more detail on the judiciary’s role in developing and implementing the Alberta Court’s Restorative Justice Pilot Project Framework. Plus, the Honourable Deputy Chief Justice M.J. Durant of the Alberta Court of Justice will be joining us to provide insights on how restorative justice functions in a provincial court context, where the majority of criminal matters are processed.
Register today to secure your spot! In advance of this program, make sure to watch the first part of our RJ series: An Alternative Path Forward: Restorative Justice in Cases of Gender-Based Violence.
