SYNOPSIS
Have you considered becoming a criminal lawyer, or wondered how closely “Better Call Saul” and “The Lincoln Lawyer” resemble real practice? UBC Faculty of Law students are invited to join criminal defence counsel, Mark Gervin and Crown Counsel, Navi Gill, for this in-person lunch-and-learn to explore what it is like to practice criminal law in British Columbia. Our speakers will share their career paths to criminal law, how to secure an articling position, and tips on building your network.
The CBABC will be sponsoring a pizza lunch for attendees. Join us for a chance to win door prizes. Space is limited so register early!
ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS
Mark Gervin
Mark graduated UBC Law school in 1998. He was called to the bar in 2000 after articling with Glen Orris, KC. He has practiced a mix of BCSC and BC Provincial Court from murder to mischief over the last 22 years; mostly murder and mayhem with a good mix of theft thrown in.
There have been many professional obligations which he loves to do, including, being Vice President and a founding member of CDAS (Criminal Defence Advocacy Society), and being a member of the CBABC. Over the years he has been involved in the Vancouver Criminal Justice section from Secretary to President and back again, he is a Provincial Council representative, and has been on the Judicial Advisory Committee for the past five years.
