Synopsis
The First Nations Land Management Act (FNLMA) is a federal law which allows participating First Nations to establish regimes governing management of their reserve lands, resources and environment. Michael Nienhuis of Miller Thomson LLP will give an overview of the legal framework of the FNLMA, including the development and implementation of First Nation land codes and related laws. Mike will also discuss various legal and practical issues encountered by lawyers practicing in real estate and Indigenous law when dealing with transactions involving First Nation lands subject to the FNLMA.
