Synopsis

The latest headlines declare that Ottawa is likely to proceed with the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion, with an announcement expected some time next month. Since the August 30, 2018 decision of the Federal Court of Appeal in Tsleil-Waututh Nation v. Canada (AG) quashing the approval of the project due to inadequate consultation with First Nations and the NEB’s failure to consider marine shipping in its report, the NEB has released a reconsideration report again approving the project subject to a number of conditions. Canada has embarked on a new and better round of consultations with impacted First Nations. Nevertheless, the project continues to be controversial, with many First Nation communities and environmentalists raising concerns about the process and the consequences of approval of the project.

Join us for the latest on the ongoing Trans Mountain Expansion saga, with presentation and discussion with Scott Smith, counsel for Tsleil-Waututh Nation.
