Synopsis

Dr. Rebecca Ledger is a British Columbia-based animal behavior and animal welfare scientist who is frequently called as an expert witness for local governments, humane organizations, veterinarians, and pet owners. Dr. Ledger is a pioneer in the development of behavioral evidence in cases where animals have suffered psychologically; her work has led to Canadian humane organizations and prosecutors being able to successfully lay charges and prosecute animal cruelty cases in the absence physical evidence.

This presentation will discuss how Dr. Ledger’s work on animal behavior science allows lawyers, clients, judges, and organizations better understand animal suffering and cruelty as well as its application across a range of legal practices, including criminal, civil, and municipal/regulatory matters.
