Beneficial ownership reporting is or soon will be top of mind for lawyers, executives and business owners in Canada. This first-in-a-series meeting will focus on the requirement for companies governed by the Canada Business Corporations Act to keep a register of beneficial owners (or, more formally, individuals with "significant control" over the company), which will take effect June 13.

The meeting will feature a brief presentation by Corporations Canada in respect of the legislative requirements and backdrop, followed by a discussion moderated by senior corporate practitioner Gary Sollis of Dentons Canada LLP.

Note that Corporations Canada will be receptive to feedback at the meeting, but will not be able to provide interpretive guidance on the legislative requirements. Mr. Sollis will lead discussion of some of the practical and legal issues that are likely to arise under the new regime. You are encouraged to come prepared to flag issues and to voice your opinion on the matters of discussion, in particular as related to interpretation of the new legislation.
