Synopsis
The Wills Estates and Succession Act allows for a person aged 16 and over to make a will, but drafting a will for a minor poses distinct issues and challenges. Krista Isberg, Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP, Jessica Sullivan, DLA Piper and Holly Anderson, Vancouver Aboriginal Child and Family Services Society will discuss a unique problem that arises when minor youths who are living in Provincial care die without wills. This session will include best practices in honouring the voices of youth in care, drafting tips to assist with creating wills for minor testators, and an explanation of the results if a minor who has inherited or otherwise received settlement assets dies without a will.
