Speaker Bio
Derek is a practitioner in a solo, general legal research practice in Victoria. He is called to the Bar in BC and Alberta. Derek practices as a research counsel and consultant to private law firms in Alberta and British Columbia, in-house counsel for oil and gas companies and arbitrators.  In addition, he has taught legal research and writing courses (beginner and advanced) at the University of Victoria Law School. If asked whether there is any one area of law that is his “expertise”, he will answer it’s the ability to find, analyze and convey legal answers/opinions for all areas.
