Protecting Varieties in the Cannabis Industry

Mark Pidkowich will speak on the subject of obtaining patent protection in the U.S., Canada, and around the world for plants, particular strains, plant by-products, and the breeders' rights associated therewith.


Speaker Bio
Mark Pidkowich is a partner at Smart & Biggar/Fetherstonhaugh and his practice focuses on the development and management of patent portfolios in the chemical and life sciences, including biologics, drug discovery, diagnostics and medical devices, and natural products. 

After obtaining a Ph.D. in botany, Mark worked as a research associate on the metabolic engineering of designer oils in oilseed crops. Mark’s work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals and patented as US 9,340,776 and US 9,976,155.
