The meeting will be a conversation with Arbitrator Jim Dorsey QC, addressing the history of the BC Labour Relations Code, from the drafting of the modern Code to changes in law, policy and practice over the years. As a long-time Arbitrator in the Province and once Legal Assistant to Chair Paul Weiler, Arbitrator Dorsey brings an interesting and historical perspective on how labour law has evolved in the Province and beyond, and what goals have and have not been met over the decades. We will also discuss the practical aspects of changes to both the economy and the legal landscape in which labour law is practiced today.

Arbitrator Dorsey is a full-time impartial, independent and neutral conflict resolution and dispute settlement professional. In addition to several decades of arbitration experience in the Province, he has served as a Vice-Chair of the Canada Labour Relations Board, Chair of the Governors of the BC Workers’ Compensation Board, and was the Commissioner of the 1995 Health Sector Labour Relations Commission (also known as the Dorsey Commission).
