Being a junior lawyer is tough!

“Real world practice comes with endless challenges that law school did not prepare me for!”

“I feel like I need so many more survival skills to keep going!”

If the above resonates with you, come join us for our “Speed Coaching” event to get advice and tips to help you keep your head above the water in the “real law world”.

This event will involve 4 roundtables with the following “coaches” at each table who will share their hard-earned experience on each of the following 4 topics:

Do you want to ask for a raise but don’t know where to start? Lindsey Petherick is the founder of Edge Legal Recruitment, which places lawyers in Vancouver and Calgary. Lindsey founded Edge in April 2018 after successfully working at Canada’s largest legal recruitment agency for 12 years. She will offer her advice on how to negotiate the salary you deserve!

Do you want to become more involved in the legal community or expand into a different area of practice? Elisabeth A. Sadowski, who practices personal injury and employment law at Richards Buell Sutton LLP will draw on her personal experiences to show you how to diversify your practice and to get more involved in the community. Elisabeth is currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the Trial Lawyers Association of BC. Her article “It’s Never Too Early to Start Giving Back” was published in the Advocate in January 2019.

Do you want better, more interesting projects at work to get noticed or to grow your legal skills? Heather L. Jones, a partner at Miller Thomson with extensive practical experience in a broad range of litigation, will offer her advice on how to get ahead inside the firm. Heather regularly mentors young lawyers through programs such as the WLF.

Do you dread dealing with some opposing counsel because of their difficult personalities? Kelly E. Slade-Kerr, an experienced employment lawyer and the managing partner of HHBG has plenty of experience solving workplace problems. Kelly will provide you with tips and “tricks of the trade” for handling difficult counsel effectively.

During the event, you will circulate among each of the 4 tables in 20-minute intervals so that you can ask each of the above “coaches” questions about their respective topics. Come armed with questions and real life problems!

For lawyers considering a career move, our respectful and trusted relationships with Managing Partners, Practise Group heads and General Counsel are why you should be engaging us as your representation in the market. Our depth of understanding of the latest trends in the Vancouver legal recruitment market is unparalleled.

Lindsey has placed associates, partners and teams into law firms, and moved corporate counsel and general counsel into companies of all sizes, in Vancouver, Calgary and beyond.
