Patients and their families have many decisions to make when faced with end-of-life care or intolerable suffering. Medical assistance in dying (MAID) provides patients, who may be experiencing intolerable suffering due to a grievous and irremediable (incurable) medical condition, the option to end their life with the assistance of a doctor or nurse practitioner.

For our final subsection meeting of the season, we have invited four speakers to educate us on MAID. Darren Kopetsky and Dr. Peter Edmunds will provide us with information from the perspective of health care professionals, while Sandra Enticknap will share her insight from the perspective of an estate and incapacity planning lawyer. Additionally, Daria Batkin of Onyx Law Group will present a case comment on Robledano v. Jacinto, 2019 BCCA 150, a recent court of appeal case which examines WESA’s definition of a spouse in a marriage-like relationship.
