Provincial Legislative Framework for Investigations in the University Context

Synopsis
CJ Rowe, Director, Sexual Violence Support & Prevention Office at Simon Fraser University, will present to the Workplace Investigations Section on the provincial legislative framework for investigations in the university context and SFU’s sexual assault policy, generally. CJ will highlight some challenges post-secondary institutions are experiencing as they implement sexual assault policies and investigation procedures and finally, CJ will share some of their thoughts on where post-secondary institutions may go from here, drawing from their experience as a co-chair on a Federal Advisory Committee tasked with creating a national framework to address gender based violence at post-secondary institutions.  
Speaker Bio
For nearly twenty years, CJ Rowe has worked with organizations, lobbying, developing educational campaigns and research projects to critically engaging with such issues as marriage equality, transgender justice, LGBTQ2S youth leadership, violence prevention, and trauma-informed services. CJ is a gender-queer butch currently living and working on the unceded and traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, and Kwikwetlem Nations. CJ holds a Ph.D. in Education from UBC, an MA in Legal Studies from Carleton University and a BA in Sociology from Acadia University. Presently, CJ is the Director of Simon Fraser University's Sexual Violence Support & Prevention Office where they work with a team to support individuals impacted by sexual violence and sexual misconduct, develop sexual violence intervention and prevention educational campaigns, learning opportunities and initiatives and works closely with the University to implement and operationalize policy.
