Chief Judge Melissa Gillespie
Attorney General David Eby, QC
Lindsey Cruickshank, Lindsey Cruickshank Barrister & Solicitor
Ola Stocklosa, Lawyer, Richards Buell Sutton
Time: Thursday, July 2, 2020, 12:00pm - 2:00pm (PT)
CPD Hours: 2.00 hours

Courts across the country have been struggling with the impacts of the global pandemic. In BC, we've had courtroom closures and zoom hearings but are now moving towards re-opening (some of which is happening right now). Many lawyers have questions about what the courts' return to normal will look like.

Our panel of speakers will canvass the impacts of COVID-19 on BC's courts across the perspectives of past/present/future. We will hear from Ola Stoklosa and Lindsey A. Cruickshank, lawyers who practiced (and appeared) before the courts in Phase 1, 2 and 3, as well as Chief Justice Hinkson and Chief Judge Gillespie on how the courts have managed (and are managing) through the shutdown of in-person hearings. Attorney General David Eby, QC may offer the Provincial government's perspective on the recovery of our courts as well as steps being taken towards the post-pandemic future.

Territorial Acknowledgement
This event will be broadcast from the traditional and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including Tsleil-Waututh, Squamish and Musqueam First Nations. We encourage members to explore the rich history and knowledge of Indigenous people, and to continue learning about their experience in Canada past and present.
