A succesful practice is made up of several moving parts and in order to ensure your success there are tips and tricks you can implement to take your firm or solo-practice to the next level. Learn how to identify your personal and business values, prioritize your mind and body, take a step back and not feel like you must do everything and lean on your delegation strengths, capitalize on the positive effect of saying “no” and “goodbye,” and embrace change.

2:00pm - 3:00pm |  Dealing with Adversity: When the Professional becomes Personal
Bena Stock,
B.A., LL.B., M.C. Registered Clinical Counsellor, R.C.C. – Associate Director, LAP
Adversity often triggers negative thoughts, which can cause unhappiness. Resilience is the ability to recover after adversity. We plant the seeds of resilience in the way we process negative events. Resilient people tend to have a more positive attitude and deal with stress more efficiently. Research on lawyers’ personalities reveals that lawyers score in the bottom 30% or lower on the resilience trait. While some people are simply more resilient than others are, the good news is that resilience can be learned. You are not your thoughts and not all thoughts are true. This workshop will help you build resilience through the science of positive psychology.

3:00pm - 3:15pm |  Afternoon Break

3:15pm - 4:15pm   |  Ethics in Practice & Community
Ken Armstrong, Managing Partner, Stewart & Company, 2018/2019 CBABC Vice-President
Have you ever encountered a “gray area” in your practice? Or, have you faced an ethical dilemma that challenges your professional responsibility? Kick start the afternoon with an engaging discussion of ethical dilemmas, putting ethics into action by working together on realistic case studies to highlight emerging ethical problems in the legal landscape.

4:15pm - 5:15pm   |  Staffing for Success
Sara Forte
, Forte Law
A firm’s lawyers and staff can be its greatest assets, but also its largest liabilities. Challenges in recruiting, retention, performance management and maintaining a respectful workplace can impact firms of any size. In this workshop, we will explore strategies for avoiding costly and distracting workplace conflicts.  We will also discuss how you can tap into discretionary effort, for greater engagement and productivity. This session will provide tangible take-aways for firm leaders and for those preparing to be leaders in future.
