Synopsis
While correct, current and strategic legal advice is critical towards minimizing taxes and risks inherent in business succession, these concepts should be paired with “relational” advice to ensure long term success for business family clients.

In addition to providing you with a comprehensive overview of key estate planning tools and recent income tax changes, Nicole Garton and David Christian will outline the main concepts and five lenses of business family relational planning. Finally, you will leave with practical tips on how to lead a multi-disciplinary term as a long term trusted advisor to business families.

A case comment will be presented by Jackson Todd on Gully v. Gully, 2018 BCSC 1590, which is a recent BC case about the risks associated with joint tenancies.
