Medical Assistance in Dying: What’s New & What’s coming

As of March 2017, Bill C-7 expanded the eligibility for medical assistance in dying (“MAiD”) to be more in line with the Supreme Court of Canada’s 2015 Carter decision. However, for individuals whose sole underlying medical condition is a mental illness, there is a two year grace period for the law to come into effect while the government develops safeguards and protocols. Our expert panel will review how the law of MAiD has developed, what has changed with Bill C-7, and what’s potentially coming next.

Professor Jeff Kirby, Dalhousie University
