This session is presented by the joint Atlantic PD series in Environment, Energy and Resources Law
This session will focus on recent trends in Atlantic Canada’s energy sector. We’ll discuss recent changes and developments to regulatory matters including a review of the current legal challenge surrounding the federal Impact Assessment Act (IAA). We’ll also review other critical aspects of the environmental permitting process that can weigh heavily on whether projects will ultimately succeed including the ever-evolving duty to consult with First Nations groups. Finally, we’ll discuss recent labor challenges facing energy projects and the importance of construction labor agreements that meet the needs of both labor and owner groups.
