According to one recent poll, Ontarians are far more concerned about the economy and health care than they are about tax cuts or electricity prices. On May 7, 2012, the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care announced cuts to OHIP-covered services. However, some say that this is less about service cuts than it is about choosing "seniors over specialists". The OBA Health Law Section is pleased to host a debate on this hot topic.
Topics to be discussed are:
- The effect of austerity on the health care sector
- The Drummond Report and the government's response
- The current OMA/government negotiations on physician compensation
- The proposed compensation formula for hospital executives
- The legal implications for patients, clients and the lawyers who advise them
