We are in an era in which significant privacy law developments are having an impact on the health care sector. In an exciting dinner program, jointly sponsored by the OBA’s Health Law Section and Privacy Law Section, a panel of distinguished privacy and health law practitioners will share their expertise and provide their perspectives on the implications of these current developments for those in the field who must comply with privacy legislation.
The panelists will address questions about the application of the common law tort of “intrusion upon seclusion” to alleged privacy breaches involving health information, as well as the emergence of health privacy related class action litigation. They will also provide a review of recent orders of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario and court decisions relevant to the health sector, and discuss the impact that the Freedom of Information ant Protection of Privacy Act’s application to hospitals has had.
If you provide advice to health sector clients on their privacy obligations, health information management systems, or industry best practices, or have involvement in litigation or other proceedings arising from privacy breaches, this is a program you will not want to miss.
