OBA Charity and Not-For-Profit Law PROGRAM | 12:15 PM to 1:45 PM

Canadian charities and not-for-profits are defined by the good work that they do for the benefit of the Canadian public. However, charities do face threats of litigation and these considerations are unique in light of their ethos, charitable status, and reputation.

Our stellar faculty, both solicitors and litigators, have vast experience advising charities and not-for-profits in the areas of employment and human rights law, health law, insurance law, and corporate governance. To ensure that you are advising these organizations appropriately, they will focus on:

  • Key advice provided to their clients before, during, and after litigation
  • The “dos and don’ts” of implementing best practices
  • Practical and valuable tools regarding advocacy, confidentiality and conflicts of interest, under the Rules of Professional Conduct

As external counsel who advise charities and not-for-profits on a regular or occasional basis, or in-house counsel who advise their clients on a wide array of matters including litigation, this program is crucial to keep you up to speed on the unique intricacies of working with charities and not-for-profits.
