Oct. 20, 2020
ON

OBA Family Law Section and Ontario Association of Collaborative Professionals PROGRAM
9:00 AM to 10:30 AM

Whether you are a litigator, a mediator or a collaborative professional, join us to explore strategies and best practices for managing the interpersonal challenges of virtual client meetings and settlement negotiations in family law matters. Our expert panel will share valuable insights and lessons learned from their work in consensual dispute resolution processes over the past few months to help you better handle the human element in the virtual room and find a way to resolution. Gather strategic advice on:

  • Managing the Zoom Room
  • Advocacy skills for a remote setting
  • Preparing your client for virtual negotiations
  • How financial and parenting professionals can assist in settlement
  • Enhancing your client management skills in a virtual environment
  • Key resources to assist you

New obligations under the Divorce Act, scheduled to come into force on March 1, 2021, will require all lawyers to encourage clients to attempt to resolve matters through a family dispute resolution process, such as mediation or collaborative law, unless clearly inappropriate.  This new duty, coupled with the impacts of the current public health emergency, provide a timely opportunity to bring together traditional family lawyers and collaborative professionals to exchange ideas and share best practices. Join us for this incredibly valuable program.

**Send us your questions in advance.**
Please submit questions for our expert panel in advance to Sections/PD Coordinator, Frances Siu by email at fsiu@oba.org by Friday, October 9, 2020.
