Speaker: Chief Justice Crampton

The Chief Justice will discuss the recent orders of the court relating to the Suspension Period introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This session will include a discussion of the court’s use of teleconferencing, video conferencing and zoom. An update on adjournments and rescheduling will be provided. Questions from the bench will be addressed in the Q&A.

12:35 pm – 1:35 pm Judicial Panel on IP Hot Topics

Speakers: Justice Lafrenière, Justice Southcott, Prothonotary Furlanetto and Justice Manson

The panel will address a(n):

1. Update regarding Confidentiality Orders and Protective Orders and other standard orders
2. Discussion of the first case(s) heard under the new PMNOC regime
3. Discussion on the use of summary motions and trials, and an update on the use of electronic trials and best practices generally

The Chief Justice will provide an update on the Federal Court including new judicial appointments, technology and the strategic plan.
